Anti-Wrinkle Injections

Neuromodulators such as BOTOX® are a class of pharmaceutical medications derived from the Botulinum bacteria (Toxin Type A). The active ingredient is a Health Canada approved purified protein that’s used in cosmetic applications to temporarily freeze the muscles that cause unwanted wrinkles in your face.

How Does Having Botox Work

Botox blocks the nerve signals that are responsible for controlling your muscle contractions. Once the Botox is injected into a muscle it attaches to the nerve endings in the injection site and prevents the release of a neurotransmitter called acetylcholine.

Acetylcholine is responsible for transmitting signals between nerves and muscles, and it plays a key role in initiating muscle contractions.

It typically takes a few days for the Botox to settle and do its job, so you may not notice results until after a few days, up to a week.  A top up may be required at your 2 week review.  Not all clients will need a top up.

The full effects can last upto several months, although the duration may vary depending on the individual and the specific treatment area.

Over time, the nerve endings regenerate, and the effects of Botox gradually wear off, which is why repeat injections are needed to maintain the desired results.

Botox can be administered to various points on the face to target specific concerns, some of the most common areas include:

  • Forehead

  • Crows feet lines

  • Frown lines

  • Bunny lines

  • Eyebrows

  • Chin dimples

  • Neck bands

  • Lip lines (Smokers lines)

Please note that where you are able to be treated depends on anatomy and desired end results.

The Procedure

The facial muscle positions, movement and effects are first examined and marked out for accuracy of Botox placement.

The Botox is then administered into the marked areas using a very short super fine needle.

Local anaesthetic is not necessary as discomfort is minimal with the technique used but if you are concerned about discomfort ice or topical numbing cream could be used.

There is minimal downtime and you can continue with your day or go back to work as normal.
